Move media without guessing what happens to your URLs

Day-to-day filing can stay Fast. When published pages must follow the files, choose Rewrite—and keep working while the sweep runs.

Fast move updates files and attachment metadata only. Rewrite move also updates matching URLs in post content and excerpts (background job for large sets). Admins set a default mode; editors get an override when moving many items or a whole Folder.

Why it matters

  • Default mode in Media → Folders settings
  • Ask when moving more than N items (default 10)
  • Always-ask option for whole-Folder moves
  • Rewrite v1 scope: attachment meta/guid + post_content / post_excerpt

How it works

  1. 01Drag items onto a Folder or move from the tree actions
  2. 02Use Fast for filing-only metadata updates
  3. 03Choose Rewrite when content URLs must follow—large jobs run in the background

Feature FAQ

Will Rewrite fix Elementor or ACF URL fields?+

Not in v1. Rewrite updates post_content and post_excerpt plus attachment meta—not postmeta, widgets, options, or builder JSON yet.

Do I need Rewrite for every move?+

No. Fast is enough for filing that doesn't need content URLs to change.
