WP Media Directories uses a small glossary: Folder means a real directory; All media and Unassigned are virtual nodes; date paths are never Folders; hidden directories stay off the tree.
Glossary
- Folder
- A real directory under the upload basedir shown in the tree.
- All media
- Virtual node listing every attachment.
- Unassigned
- Attachments not inside any Folder—including files still in WordPress year/month paths.
- Date upload path
- YYYY or YYYY/MM paths are never Folders in the tree.
- Hidden directory
- Excluded from the Folder tree via denylist, overrides, or a hide marker file.
