WP Media Directories

WP Media Directories

Keep physical folders. Leave the second media UI.

If you already think in real directories, WP Media Directories brings that model into the Media Library your editors already use.

Media Library Plus pioneered physical media folders, often in a separate UI. WP Media Directories also uses real directories under the upload basedir, but mounts a native Media Library tree and uses WordPress upload/attachment APIs. Both cannot mount folder UIs together.

Hard rule

Deactivate MLP / Media Library Folders / MaxGalleria media-library variants first—same hard-conflict behavior as FileBird.

Step-by-step

  1. 01Backup the site.
  2. 02Note existing upload folder structure on disk (you may already have real dirs).
  3. 03Deactivate MLP (and conflicting plugins).
  4. 04Install & license WP Media Directories.
  5. 05Open Media → Library — existing non-date, non-hidden dirs should appear as Folders after cache/Reconcile.
  6. 06Use Rebuild folder cache / Sync now if the tree looks stale.
  7. 07Hide junk dirs via settings or hide markers.
  8. 08Prefer Rewrite when relocating files already referenced in content.

Questions, answered plainly

Can I run both during transition?+

No. Pick one folder UI.

Will my files be deleted?+

Deactivating MLP does not delete uploads; always backup first.

Are mlpp-hidden markers recognized?+

Yes. Legacy mlpp-hidden markers are recognized alongside .wp-media-directories-hidden.
