Physical folders are powerful—and opinionated. Here's what works, what conflicts, and what to ask us about.
WP Media Directories requires WordPress 6.0+ and PHP 7.4+. It organizes real directories under the site's upload basedir via WordPress upload APIs. It hard-conflicts with FileBird and Media Library Plus folder UIs. It is per-site on multisite. Custom upload locations work; full offload-to-object-storage setups need careful evaluation.

Works well
- Standard and custom upload locations via wp_upload_dir()
- Media Library grid, list, and attachment modal
- Multisite — per site (own basedir, settings, tree)
- Sites that can create directories on the uploads filesystem
Hard conflicts
If these are active, WP Media Directories shows an admin notice and does not mount its folder UI.

Compatibility FAQ
Can I use this with FileBird?+
No—not at the same time. Deactivate FileBird before activating WP Media Directories.
Custom uploads folder?+
Yes, if WordPress reports it via wp_upload_dir().
Multisite network-wide tree?+
Not in v1; license and configure per site.
WooCommerce / Elementor?+
Media modal works; builder-stored URLs may need manual care until rewrite scope expands.
