Fast vs Rewrite scope, limits, and when to choose each.
Fast move updates files and attachment metadata only. Rewrite also updates matching URLs in post content and excerpts. Choose based on whether published URLs must follow the files.
Fast move
- Updates files + attachment metadata/guid.
- Best for day-to-day filing when content URLs do not need to change.
Rewrite move
- Does everything Fast does, plus a content URL sweep.
- v1 scope: post_content and post_excerpt (absolute, baseurl-relative, and sizes). Not postmeta, builders, widgets, or options yet.
Overrides
- Admins set a default mode in Media → Folders.
- Editors are prompted when moving more than N items (default 10) or a whole Folder.
